Space Buns: What are they and how to wear them?

The timeless chignon completely changes its appearance and takes on super-fashionable variants. It becomes double and moves to the top of the head, so here’s our double buns that pops on the heads of all.

Two tails rolled up on themselves create a nice hairstyle that can adapt to all situations from evening to morning, from the office to the gym and with different types of clothing. They are also a valid trick to camouflage unhealthy hair and you do not want to appear unrepresentable.

From the 90s come the space buns

Singer Gwen Stefani launched the space buns fashion in a “wet effect” version. On the completely wet head, the tails are gathered almost squeezed and create a fountain effect. But we got to know the first real double bun thanks to Princess Leila in Star Wars in a slightly retro style, but of great effect. The buns in this case are very large and resemble two wheels, are placed at the sides of the face to completely cover the ears.

How to wear space buns?

Double space buns with loose hair: impossible not to mention Sailor Moon, the manga heroine who sported her blonde double buns with long loose tails. In other variants, the hair is not all completely collected in the chignons. We can define it as a crop seed where the double buns are smaller and leave room for the cascade of hair. This mode can be softer, suitable for example for the office with a more classic clothing. Or with vertical buns that give a touch of elegance.

Space buns with braids: after picking up the hair in the two tails, you go to the weave and then roll up on themselves. Another idea is to create the braids by starting from the lower part of the nape of the neck that then go to “disappear” in the buns. The buns with braids give a touch of jaunty and sparkling, suitable for a youthful look. If you then have the strokes of light or balayage, the game of streaks is enhanced to the maximum.

Playing with hair colors is an added value to space buns. Purple, pink, turquoise, grey and rainbow shades are enhanced even more with this type of hairstyle.

Normally the line that separates the strands of hair collected is straight, but many choose to do it in zigzag or diagonal. For a more glamorous style there are those who choose to add coloured glitter along the stripe and even piercing for the most aggressive.

Buns with curly or straight hair?

The double buns with curly or wavy hair lend themselves very well to a disheveled look, even better by slightly backcombing the locks to enhance the volume. For those with straight hair you will need to use a texturizing spray to facilitate the hairstyle. It helps to better shape the locks and the hold will be more durable.
